The link between oral and general health has been something that those in the dental profession have known for quite some time now. The great news is that the general public is beginning to understand this connection! It is all over the popular media. Hardly a day goes by that there isn’t some major article in a magazine or a feature on the news. Just within the last year, Whoopi Goldberg has discussed the connection between oral and general health on The View, Diane Sawyer and Dr. Timothy Johnson had a feature on Good Morning America, ABC News has run syndicated features on the evening news, and Men’s Health has published articles about this in their magazine. This is all great news because the public is beginning to pay attention! On this episode we were very fortunate to have a special guest on the show who is a world-renowned authority on periodontal disease, Dr. Tom Nabors.
Research shows that perio disease is a silent epidemic in the world today. Some data indicates that 80% of the adult population has some degree of perio disease. Let me use more direct language. That means that it’s possible that 4 out of 5 people have an active infection in their mouth! And this infection is not just in their mouth, it’s throughout their circulatory system. While this may seem like bad news, the good news is that we have new science that can help our listeners diagnose and treat perio disease. We were very fortunate to have Dr. Nabors as our guest to share with you some of his passion for perio and how you can help your patients have great oral health and also improve their general health as well.BUSTING LOOSE From Insurance Dependence in Your Dental Practice
